Mad Race is a back-to-basics type of racing video game that has a wide range of weapons and other fun obstacles to impede a user’s progress and to help a user impede the progress of his or her competitors.

The Mad Race Game

With consoles out like the PS4 and Xbox One, and with the incredibly high-detailed and powerful processing graphics cards out today, video games are more like interactive movies. Though sometimes it feels good to get back to the way games used to be, ala an arcade style of game. This is where Mad Race really earns some serious nostalgia points. The game is not bereft of good graphics; it is not just a big-budget game that’s going to cause anyone's eyes to widen. Mad Race is bright, colorful, fast, fun, and even a little naughty.

With an overhead view, similar to that of the original Grand Theft Auto, Mad Race pits a single driver against six or more other drivers in a mad dash for the finish line. The aerial shot adds quite a challenge on its own, while the whimsical cars can crash and burn and still return to full speed in a matter of seconds.

Fun Features of Mad Race

Part of what makes Mad Race so fun is that it'snot a realistic racing game. There are so many of those on the market, and when a game tries so hard to be “real,” it just ends up being a letdown when you realize that it's still lacking realism. Mad Race is a cartoonish adventure more than anything. It's like an older Micro Machine racer, and that's probably what Gametop was going for when they developed the game. The features are very arcade-like, and it does not take itself too seriously.

The tracks are also anything but ordinary. While driving, you can pick up a range of different bonuses, including time bonuses, speed bonuses, and even weapons that you can use against the other drivers to try to knock them off the road.

Another decent feature of Mad Race is its dual gaming modes. You can either go at it one race at a time, or you can enter the tournament stage. In terms of racing locations and automobiles, you will unlock different cars and different tracks as you progress throughout the game, so there's always something to look forward to.

Mad Race is not available for Windows 7, which is a negative, but it’s still a fun and unique racing game that lets you cause a little bit of havoc on the roadways.
